NATIONAL TERRIERS CLUB
National Terriers Club was founded to register, preserve, and protect terriers. Here at the NTC, we understand what terriers mean to breeders, handlers, hunters, and farmers. The National Terriers Club stands shoulder to shoulder with every fancier of the terrier.
FANCIERS OF THE TERRIER
Breeders are truly the backbone of any breed. It is through their understanding and abilities as breeders that the vast majority of quality dogs within a bloodline exist. Without the breeders who have a unique talent to achieve and do what few can even begin to comprehend, one would be hard pressed to find quality within any bloodline. A good dog is where you find it but, it doesn't hurt to know where to look. At NTC, we understand what it takes and what it means to maintain, to preserve, and/or to further develop a bloodline within a breed of dogs. We know the dedication, the experience, the hard work, the understanding, and even the luck involved. NTC would like to thank each and every breeder for their dedication and work. Thank You.
Handlers of all types and duties are masters of their
traits. With experience and a cunning mind for understanding how to get the most out of their dogs, handlers are the coaches of the dogworld.
Hunters and Farmers in general understand the terrier breeds more than anyone else. For it is out in the fields and on the trail that heart and tenacity makes a terrier a terrier. The relationship between man and terrier at this level often creates a "band of brotherhood" that is unmatched or unrivaled in its loyalty, love, and dedication.

In the world of working and sporting terriers there are but two springs from which the terrier has sprung from, the colored terriers from the central & northern British Isles and the white terriers from southern Great Britain. In the central & northern regions the original working terriers
were the Scottish, Old English,
Black and Tan, and a variety of Fell
Terriers. The terriers that were
developed in the central & northern
British Isles were mainly done so
based solely on their ability to work.
Dispite the wide range of "names"
given to these terriers today, they
are all kin to some degree or another. Infact, It is still very

worked, and bred. Some of the breeds that derived from these mainly white coated dogs include the Smooth Fox, the Wire Fox, the Sealyham, the Parson Russel, and Russell Terrier. Reverend John Russell said , "True terriers differ from the present show dogs as the wild eglantine differs from a garden rose." Working terriers are truely the Kings and Queens of the
underground world. For many terrier fanciers, there are those who work in the field,
underground, to formidable quarry, and then there is everything else. The white "fox working terriers" of Southern England and the
decendants of those terriers are remarkable and can
still be found working today.
A "working terrier" is a terrier that goes to ground
against a formidable quarry. Terriers that rat, bush
rabbits, work wild game in brush piles or barns, or face
formidable adversary above ground are "sporting
terriers". Some terrier breeds excel more than other
terrier breeds at "working" and/or "sporting", however,
it is the function of working or sporting that makes a
terrier a working or sporting terrier. Not all Jack Russells
can or will go to ground against a formidable quarry,
therefore, not all Jack Russells are working terriers.
Likewise, not all Patterdales can or will face a
formindable adversary above ground, and so, not all Patterdales are sporting terriers.
Isles will continue to exist. Their "names" might change and the "crosses" might not meet the fancy of conformation judges, but they will still exist.
In the south, the original working terriers were the white fox working terriers such as the dogs the Reverend John Russell owned,
